Daar zijn we weer!
Van Christmas Spirit direct naar de zomer.

In Bihar (http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bihar) zitten ze op dit moment midden in het regenseizoen (monsoon). Je zou misschien zeggen dat we in Nederland in hetzelfde seizoen zitten als je kijkt naar de afgelopen weken maar in Bihar gaat het er toch iets harder aan toe. In India kennen ze in principe 3 seizoenen: Het koele seizoen van oktober tot februari, het hete seizoen van maart tot juni en het regenseizoen van midden juni tot september.  

Ik sta nog steeds in nauw contact met Rajesh en onlangs kreeg ik het volgende bericht: “School is going to start from 25^th June. here is now good whether now raining here.“ Het regenseizoen is dus begonnen en het hete seizoen is achter de rug.  Dat is maar beter ook want in April was het zo warm dat ze alleen ‘s morgens naar school konden en in Mei moest de school zelfs 3 weken dicht vanwege de extreme hitte. 

Doelen

Stichting Bhavishya bestaat inmiddels al weer meer dan een jaar! En aankomend jaar wil ik het grootser aanpakken. Dat betekent meer donateurs, meer naamsbekendheid en niet alleen meer binnen de eigen sociale kring. Heb je zelf ideeën om dit te bereiken, of wil je graag meehelpen? Mijn doel is om de steun te krijgen van minstens 20 vaste donateurs & 50 eenmalige/variabele donateurs binnen 1 jaar van nu. Bovendien wil ik in de komende 9 maanden weer een bezoek hebben gebracht aan de school (op eigen kosten uiteraard) om met eigen ogen te zien hoe het gaat met de school en of er investeringen nodig zijn die het onderwijs wellicht kunnen verbeteren in de regio.

Nog eenmaal ter herinnering:
Met een donatie aan Stichting Bhavishya worden o.a. schoolboeken, schriften, uniformen en rijst gekocht. Er gaan zo’n 85 kinderen naar de school, waarvan 20 weeskinderen zijn. De weeskinderen wonen ook in de school en er wordt gezorgd dat ze er 3 maaltijden per dag krijgen, dat hun uniformen worden gewassen en dat ze extra studiewerk kunnen doen na schooltijd.
Het kost 16.800 roepies (€280) per maand om de 20 weeskinderen te voeden en onderdak te verzorgen. Er zijn 3 leraren/leraressen aanwezig die ieder 2000 roepies per maand vragen, dat is nog niet eens €35. Inclusief overige kosten zoals het kopen van schriften, leerboeken en pennen komen de totale kosten per maand ongeveer uit op 27.500 roepies (€450). Dat is €5400 op jaarbasis en dus iets meer dan €60 per kind.
Dit betekent dat je voor slechts 5 euro per maand al een kind naar school stuurt en een toekomst (Bhavishya) geeft.

Here we are again!
From the Christmas Spirit straight to the summer.

In Bihar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bihar) they’re having the rain season at the moment. You might think we’re in the same season here in the Netherlands judging from the past weeks but in Bihar the monsoons are a bit more extreme. Basically, in India they have 3 seasons: the cold/cool season from October to February, the hot season from March to June and the rain season from mid June to September.

I’m still in close contact with Rajesh and recently I received the following message: “School is going to start from 25^th June. here is now good whether now raining here.“  So the rain season has started and the hot season has passed. This is probably for the best since the temperatures in April made it only possible for the children to attend the school in the mornings, and the extreme heat wave in May even forced the school to close down for 3 weeks.

Targets

The Bhavishya foundation has just celebrated its one year anniversary! And the upcoming year I want to do things bigger. That means more donors, more name recognition and not just people I know personally. Do you have ideas yourself on how to help me reach these goals, or you want to help out yourself? My goal is to get the support of at least 20 regular and 50 irregular donors within one year from now. Furthermore I want to visit the school in the upcoming 9 months (at own expense of course) to see with my own eyes how things are going and to look out for possible investment to further improve the education system in the area.

As a reminder:
A donation to the Bhavishya Foundation will be used to buy school books, notebooks, uniforms and rice. Around 85 children attend the school, of which 20 are orphans. The orphans also live in the school and the people there make sure they get 3 meals a day, that their uniforms will be washed and that there’s a possibility to study more after regular school hours.

To feed the 20 orphans and provide them with a roof over their head cost about 16.800 rupees (€280) a month. There are 3 teachers who each ask 2000 rupees a month, which is not even €35. Including other expenses like buying notebooks, school books and pens brings the total costs per month to approximately 27.500 rupees (€450). That’s €5400 in a year and hence a bit more than €60 per child.
This means that for only €5 a month you bring a child to school and give it a future (Bhavishya).

We zitten nu met zijn allen in de kerstsfeer en dit staat vaak in het teken van het samenzijn met familie, vrienden en andere dierbaren. Maar natuurlijk gaat de Kerst ook over het helpen van anderen… het helpen van mensen die minder welvarend zijn dan ons. Ook de weeskinderen en arme kinderen van Bihar (India) verdienen een toekomst.

We are all in the "Christmas spirit" at the moment and often this symbolizes being together with family, friends and other loved ones. But of course Christmas is also about helping others…helping the people that are less fortunate than us. Also the orphan children and poor children of Bihar (India) deserve a future.

They need more help!

Hey there!
Rajesh and his team joined forces with a Japanese NGO to start a new school in a village nearby, Manzar Village. The school is named "Under a Tree" The NGO will cover the costs of books, pens and the salary of the teacher for now. Rajesh and co. will be supervising the whole thing, meaning checking whether the school takes place regularly, how many children are coming, how the teacher is doing, and so on. But to ensure its future, more funds are necessary! So please help them out and give your donation to the Bhavisha Foundation. Even small amounts can be very useful because with only a few euro's they can buy so much! For an indication of some of the prices, look at one of the first stories of my blog (title: Transparency).
Or... you can go to Bodhgaya to help out, like my friend Benedikt did! He spend around 2 weeks there starting all kinds of new projects and just having fun with the children of the school, for example by going on a picknick with them (see pictures below). I'm very grateful to Franziska und Benedikt for helping the people in the villages around Bodhgaya.

Still enough things that need to be done though.
So keep on supporting the Bhavishya foundation so that I can make a third donation. And let's make it a big one this time! :)

Tweede donatie / Second donation!

Jaja, de tweede donatie is een feit! Als de banken hun werk doen komt er zo'n 72 euro komende week aan bij de school in India, bij kinderen die het nodig hebben. Nu staat er echter niets meer op de rekening dus blijf doneren mensen!

Ik heb onlangs enkele foto's ontvangen van de school. Ze hadden op 15 augustus een soort schoolviering waarbij de kinderen wat toneelstukjes opvoerden of hun verborgen dans- en zangtalent konden laten zien.  Onderaan dit bericht vindt je enkele foto's.

Binnenkort zal er bovendien een Duitse vriend van me daar wat vrijwilligerswerk doen. Zijn naam is Benedikt Alt, en is nu samen met zijn vriendin op reis door Nepal en India. Hopelijk kan hij het vinden!! India schijnt namelijk best groot te zijn..
Ook al is hij er nog niet en bestaat er natuurlijk een kans dat het niet allemaal loopt zoals gepland (wat niet zo vreemd is in India), ben ik hem nu al erg dankbaar! :)

Allright, so the second donation has been made! If the banks do what they're supposed to do, the school in India will receive around 72 euros next week. For them this is a lot of money and the good thing is that it goes to children that actually need it. However, the bank account of my foundation is pretty much empty now, so keep the donations coming!

Recently I received some pictures of my contact person at the school. They had some sort of celebration on August 15th in which the children did drama, music and dance performances. At the bottom you can see a few selected pictures of that day. 

Another nice announcement: Soon a German friend of mine will do some volunteering at the school. His name is Benedikt Alt and at the moment he is travelling through Nepal and India, together with his girlfriend who will also be helping out. Hopefully they can find it as I've heard India is pretty big...
Even though he is not there yet and there's still a chance that things don't work out the way they are planned (which is common in India), I'm already very grateful to him! :)

 

De eerste donatie is gemaakt! / The first donation has been send!

Jaja, het eerste geldbedrag is overgemaakt; 80 euro maar liefst! Dat staat gelijk aan zo'n 5000 roepies. Daar kun je echt ongelooflijk veel eten mee kopen in India!

Super bedankt voor degenen die Stichting Bhavishya steunen! Ik hoop dat er nog velen volgen :)
 
Het geldbedrag is inmiddels twee weken geleden gedoneerd. Hieronder staat de e-mail die ik op 19 juli ontving van de school. Rajesh werkt niet zo graag met leestekens maar daar moet je even niet op letten ;)

"respected brother, thanks for your help i got your donation amount is 5000 rs this money i use in fooding of stdents and i buy some note books. After this month school have a program it's call independence day it will on 15th of august in this day students will sing a national songs and i will invaite some guest they will come to see students program and after program evrybody eat sweets candy banana biscutes etc, for this program students will start to practise from 1august, i will send you some photos of students after the program. The first donation is a fact! 80 euro's, which equals around 5000 rupees, which equals an incredible amount of food for the kids!

I want to thank the people that are supporting the Bhavishya Foundation so much! You're giving these kids a better future :)

The money was donated around two weeks ago, and as you can tell from the e-mail I got (look above) Rajesh is very happy with your donation!
